Matt was born and raised in Chemainus, BC. Throughout his childhood he played high level soccer, AAA baseball, and at the age of 10 he started playing golf at Mt Brenton golf course. In the summer his mother would drop him of at the golf course in the morning and come pick him up when it was dark out. He would often play 36 holes, or more, in a day. His personal record for most holes played in a signal day is 63. Golf has taught him many lessons in humility and the importance of hard work and perseverance. He carries this skill set on and off the course.
Matt enrolled at VIU straight out of high school, where he joined the golf team and was able to compete at a higher level, while gaining a valuable education. After his first few years in the business program at VIU he chose to major in accounting and proudly joined the JJA team in the September of 2019.
To this day Matt continues to live in Chemainus and commutes to Nanaimo for work. He retains a golf membership at both Mt Brenton & Nanaimo golf club where he plays both competitive matches against friends and competes in tournaments around the Island.
